My name is Carolyn Stafford Bell. I am a qualified and registered therapeutic counsellor in Oakham & Rutland, Leicestershire.
I offer a confidential* service in a purpose built room from my home in Oakham, Rutland. I offer face-to-face counselling, either short-term structured or long-term therapy, usually weekly sessions. I can offer daytime & evening appointments.
My approach to counselling is integrative, fundamentally built on the person-centred philosophy. My aim is to provide a safe environment where your thoughts and feelings are given the time and space to be voiced and heard.
Anxiety/Stress can cause irritability and reduce our ability to cope with the pressures of life. Trauma, Bereavement, relationship issues and family issues are all experiences very difficult and painful to deal with, and we can feel very alone. Perhaps there is someone to talk to, but they do not fully understand how YOU feel and the effect it may be having on you.
We all experience problems in our lives at some point, whether you may be going through a period of crisis, or perhaps you are hoping to change self-defeating patterns of thinking and behaviour, and when we are troubled we often don't know what type of help we need we just know we need help. Telling someone you know (family/friends) may be difficult because it is personal and private, and they may offer their opinion and advice.
Counselling is different, it provides a non-judgmental response, counselling enables you to work through painful feelings, to grow in self-understanding and confidence, explore and develop coping strategies by looking at your options.
The aim of counselling is to provide you,the client, with a confidential opportunity to explore personal and relational issues in safety. The role of the counsellor is to help you through this process without judgement or telling you what to do.
What this all means:Counselling is a talking therapy and relies on you the client to talk and explore areas of your life that you are finding most difficult:counselling is a process, a joumey to self-discovery and hopefully healing. It is hoped that at the end of your counselling you feel in a better place to manage what is troubling you, with more awareness of your own feelings and your place in the world.Therapy is in individual experience and clients may come with a variety of issues and needs - no two clients are ever the same. You are unique and will be treated with care and respect.

Years of studying and practice has proved to me that it is never too late to change. Of course, it has to be the right time for you.
The aim of counselling is to provide you with a confidential opportunity to explore personal and relational issues in safety. The role of the counsellor is to help you through this process without judgement or telling you what to do.I may on occasions give information or offer suggestions.During counselling, we set goals agreed between the client and the therapist. The client agrees to work towards the agreed goals.Once the assessment is complete, I will discuss my understanding of your difficulties with you and agree a way forward.
It is important for you to be in control of your journey during therapy but with appropriate help, support and guidance you can develop the skills and techniques to use at any time without the need for on-going therapy. It is also important for you to find a counsellor you feel comfortable to work with and for you to decide if you feel comfortable working with me.There are no obligation to come to further sessions.
If you have any questions about how I might be able to help, you are welcome to ask me!

Good supervision should be ethical, authentic and supportive - active, enlightening and spontaneous: trusting the process and gaining more self-awareness through reflective practice.
